BMW 501-6 – 1956 - Lot 65
BMW 501-6 – 1956 ERRATUM : Engine does not start, fuel supply issue. Luxembourg registration title Sold without contrôle technique In 1951, the 501 was the first car manufactured and marketed by BMW after the war: an elegant, statuesque sedan, it was to relaunch the Munich-based firm in the luxury segment; a blend of tradition and modernity, it combined an in-line 6-cylinder engine from the 326 with numerous innovations designed to improve safety. Despite its high level of comfort, low fuel consumption and flawless reliability, its commercial success was mixed; competing with the 502 with its more modern V8 engine, production ended in 1958. Our example corresponds to the latest evolution of the 501 ; purchased in Germany, it joined the M. E. collection in 2004. Today, it is in generally good condition. Its bodywork has been repainted in the past in this pastell-grün shade, and its bumpers, trim and various chrome ornaments are very well preserved. The interior is also in good condition, with a nice patina and a large sunroof. Under the hood is the 6-cylinder 337/3 in its 2077 cm³ version, developing 72 hp and mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox; our example has passed a roadworthiness test valid from early 2023. “The first BMW produced after the war”
