EXHIBITION Wrexham Art Treasures, Wrexham (Wales), July 15 - November 22, 1876 (see label on back) (not catalogued: https://archive.org/details/gri_33125010313456/page/n141/mode/2up?q=clarke&view=theater) In a stable- or tavern-like interior, figures play cards around a table while the host takes orders, marking them with chalk on the table. Others chat in front of the fire, and a woman in the background appears to be pushing open a door. Our work is a replica of the painting by David Teniers le Jeune, dated circa 1643 and held in the collections of the Royal Collection Trust (inv. RCIN 405217).
