1969 Alpine A110 1600 S Compétition Usine - Lot 4
1969 Alpine A110 1600 S Compétition Usine French registration Chassis number 16038 The very first Berlinette 1600 S entered in competition by the factory! Remarkable achievements with Jean Vinatier and then in Corsica in the hands of private drivers Well known and documented history Car in its original and perfectly functional condition Definitely one of the most desirable factory Berlinettes The Alpine A110 Berlinette, queen of the rallies and icon of a whole generation of drivers, is no longer presented. Jean Rédélé’s stroke of genius was to propose, from the very beginning of his industrial adventure, a sports car capable of winning local events, such as the World Rally Championship! At Alpine, production cars have always preceded racing cars, and so after the success of the 1100 and 1300 versions, Jean Rédélé began by equipping his Berlinette with the engine of the Renault R16 to give birth to the short-lived 1500, then to the 1600 and 1600 S. As soon as the first 1600s were delivered in September 1968, it was decided to allocate four of them to the brand’s competition department: two mules and two cars intended to be officially entered in competition. The car with chassis #16038 / body #2301 that illustrates these pages is one of them! And it is the very first A110 1600 to be officially entered in a competition by the brand... Registered 3048 GK 76, it is indeed entrusted to the in-house driver Jean Vinatier and entered in Prototype / Gr. 6 (the 500 examples of Berlinette 1600 having not yet been marketed to allow an homologation in Gr. 4). Co-driven by Callewaert, Vinatier took the start of the 6th International Lorraine Rally 1969; the crew finished 2nd! In June, Vinatier finished second again, behind an Alfa 33, in the highly competitive Ronde Cévenole. He retired from the 21st Mont Blanc Rally at the beginning of July due to a road accident. The car is repaired and marketed by the VO service. In a very exceptional way, the car’s registration document and body plate remain associated with #16038! The car will then pass through the hands of several Corsican amateurs, and will take part in two Tour de Corse, two Tour Ile de Beauté (double of the Tour de Corse, National category), four Ronde la Giraglia, notably with the tireless Bastiese garage owner Daniel Rognoni. It was during this period that the car was fitted with wide flat wings, then round wings, and widened rims. The car went to the mainland in 1976, before its current owner bought it in 1981. Since then, he has never stopped driving this incredible Berlinette, an essential link in the history of the model, always maintaining his mount with care and passion. He has now decided to pass the baton. Don’t miss your chance...
