Secretary with flap in violet wood veneer. It opens to a drawer in the belt and an upper flap richly decorated with a large panel painted with a couple in the antique style rushing towards a fountain with winged lovers in a gilt bronze rocaille frame. The upper jambs are flanked by two espagnolettes and gilt bronze recesses. The flap opens on four small mahogany drawers with nets, two of which have locks. Writing desk lined with green velvet. Lock plate signed "Paul Sormani 10 r.Charlot Paris". The upper part in doucine and with gilded bronze gallery. It rests on four high legs with slight curves trimmed with gilt bronze falls and hooves. Second half of the 19th century. Height : 137 cm - Width : 87 cm Depth : 39 cm (Very good general condition, slight lifting, restorations) Paul Sormani (1817 - 1877) was a manufacturer of beautiful "luxury furniture". His work is described as follows in the catalog of the World Fair of 1867: "all his production reveals a quality of execution of the highest order". He exhibited in Paris in 1849, 1855, 1862, 1867, 1878 and 1900, and in London in 1862, winning numerous medals.
