TABLE CLOCK in the shape of a dome, the movement inscribed in a circular gilded bronze case, whose upper part in dome is worked with the repercé (for the ringing) of chimeras and grotesque characters in mascarons. Mechanical movement, repercé cock and finely engraved of a winged mermaid. The top hosts the dial (brought from an old watch). Second half of the 16th century. Height: 8.5 cm - Diameter: 9.5 cm (Many accidents and missing parts including the bottom and the stamp) Rests on a circular base of blackened wood, in doucine. The Metropolitan Museum of New York keeps a table clock of the same shape and dimensions whose movement is signed by the English clockmaker Bartholomew Newsam (died 1587) [no. 17.190.1514a].
