= Baoyueping" blue-white porcelain flask, the circular body resting on a splayed foot, topped by a tubular neck flanked by moving handles, in the center a central medallion in relief surrounded by eight lotus petals painted in a shade of cobalt blue, each one housing one of the Eight Buddhist Emblems ("Bajixiang"), the contours of the body and the rims underlined by a frieze of Greek. The foot, neck and sides are decorated with elegant floral scrolls. Qianlong mark with six characters in zhuanshu in blue underglaze on the base. H. 31,8 cm PROVENANCE In the family for over a century. NOTE The name "Baoyueping" (literally "bottle embracing the moon") refers to the shape of the body which reminds the lunar star. This type of gourd imitates pieces from the early Ming Dynasty, more precisely from the Yongle period (1403 - 1425), themselves inspired by Middle Eastern goldsmith's models.
