Interesting correspondence to the art critic Georges LAFENESTRE (1837 - 1919), who made a career in the administration of the Beaus-Arts. November 27, 1868, he is "flattered by the invitation whose His Majesty the Emperor deigns to honor me"... July 4, 1879, he had to leave without having been able to see him, and worried about the payment of his statue of Gribeauval. March 1, 1880, about the pedestal of the Lion. February 1, 1893, requesting a conference at the Société libre des Artistes français (header): "you will find yourself with Bonnat, Henner, R. Fleury etc... in the middle of the country of knowledge among artists who will be happy to show you their sympathies"... November 18, 1903, on the subject of the jury for the Universal Exhibition of Saint Louis, he points out his two paintings on "American subjects, landscapes with figures, Old and New California made with studies on the spot. They are likely to be well received in America, as much for the subject, as because of the notoriety I enjoy in the United States"...
