Abrégé des Mémoires ou Journal du Marquis de Dangeau, extracted from the original manuscript, containing many particularities and anecdotes on Louis XIV, his court, etc.; with historical and critical notes, and an abridgment of the history of the Regency; by Mme de Genlis. Paris : Treuttel and Würtz, London and Strasbourg : 1817. 3 volumes in-8 (of 4), (4)-449 pages; (2)-448 pages; (4)-420 pages. Contemporary long-grained red morocco, richly decorated smooth spine, boards framed with a double gilt fillet and a large vegetal lace, arms in the center, decorated edges and borders, blue moire endpapers, gilt edges (binding attributable to Simier). A magnificent copy with the arms of Marie-Caroline de Bourbon, duchess of Berry. The Marquis de Dangeau is one of the three most important chroniclers of the reign of Louis XIV, with Saint-Simon and Bouchet de Sourches. In spite of the qualification of Abrégé, it is the first extended edition of his famous Journal written from 1684 to his death, established and put in context by Madame de Genlis.
