Set of works, typescripts and autograph letters from his translators Hubert de Monbrison (1892 - 1981) and Irina Paley (1903 - 1990). The Russian philosopher Nicolas Berdiaev (1874 - 1948), representative of Christian existentialism, emigrated to France in 1924. This was the beginning of his most productive period, during which he wrote his major works: The New Middle Ages (1924), On the Destination of Man (1931), Five Meditations on Existence (1934), On Slavery and Freedom of Man (1939) and Essay on Eschatological Metaphysics (1946). Hubert de Monbrison, from the Protestant Gascon nobility, is one of the administrators of the editions Je sers et Demain which publish various essays by Berdiaev. He collaborated in the translation of these texts with the Russian princess Irina Pavolvna Paley. Separated since 1930 from her first husband, Grand Duke Theodore of Russia, she fell in love with Monbrison, who was married at the time, and she married him in 1950. One of the 10 copies on Hollande, with an autograph letter signed by Monbrison to Paley, with an autograph letter signed by the same to the same, Paris, n.d., 1 page 1/2 in-8 oblong. - Esprit et Liberté. III. 2 typescripts (incomplete) of the original French translation of 2 works by Berdiaev: - Esprit et Liberté. 262 - 231-(1) leaves in-4 (leaves 67-69 non-existent, not missing). Several leaves missing from Chapter VII onwards. Some autograph corrections by Paley. (Title leaf partially torn, lower corners of 2 leaves torn, not missing). - Christianity and the Class Struggle. Title, table, introduction + handwritten introduction by Monbrison: (7) leaves; title, dedication, table and chapters I-III: (3)-48 leaves (leaf 16 not present, not missing). (Missing the last chapters).
