(2 lots attached) [ALMANACHS - EMBROIDED BINDINGS] Set of 2 works. - Etrennes mignonnes pour l'An de N. Seigneur M.DCCLXXXI. Since the beginning of the world... Liège : Veuve J. Dessain, s. d. [1781]. In-24, (4) leaves (including title), (12) calendar leaves interleaved with (12) blank leaves and (38) illustrated leaves. Bound in ivory silk embroidered with floral garlands of gold thread and sequins, in the center of each plate is inserted a miniature painted on paper in medallion. Beautiful period binding in embroidered silk, decorated with two miniatures with gallant subjects, the first depicting a cherub wearing a hat and holding a stick, topped by the inscription: "I am lost", the second depicting a cherub armed with a bow and a quiver pointing to the breastplate of a suit of armor, accompanied by the legend: "Nothing resists my blows. The almanac is illustrated with 12 pages of woodcut coins (2 per page), and small zodiac signs in the calendar. De Theux 491 - 192; Saffroy, Almanacs, 257. (Silk faded and soiled, sequins and metallic threads tarnished). - Etrennes instructives, curieuses et mignones [sic], ou Almanach sans pareil, pour 1818. Paris: Blocquel, s. d. [1818]. In-24, 128 pages, one large folding map plate. Bound in ivory silk, first cover embroidered with garlands and floral motifs in gold and colored sequins. The almanac is illustrated with a large folding plate with a planisphere on the front, and 10 engraved flags of various powers on the back. Carteret n° 1862 (1819 edition). (A few small stains on the binding, threads and sequins a little faded)
