Very nice set of love letters to Victor Hugo, from the beginning of their affair to their old age. [You have used this night to burden me with the infamous slanders of a George and the misfortunes of my past life, you have mocked the fifteen months of love and suffering spent with you, all this in the middle of the fever and the night"... Sunday [1834]. "My dear beloved, I love you, I am very patient, I wait for you with much love and much resignation"... Friday [1835]. "Since I know that you see in my letters something other than my love, I am very embarrassed to write to you. [...] as a famous author called Victor Hugo tells me every day, have you heard of Victor Hugo? He is a very charming man and very well received by women, too well received, hmm!well this author repeats to me every day "that the toilet adds nothing to the charms of a pretty woman, that it is a waste of time to want to add to nature when she is beautiful"... February 17 [1840 ?] "Yes, my Toto, today is the anniversary of our happiness and I am very happy that you are dedicating it by coming to supper this evening by my fire"... November 2 [1840] (on the return from the trip on the Rhine). "Here is the time of the big letters back, my beloved, and God knows that I would give half of what I have left to live to postpone for two more months this sad pleasure of absence. [...] I have never loved you more than during the two months we have just spent together on this charming journey"... December 19 [1841 ?]: "Daily dialogue between Mr Toto and Mrs Juju. "If I come back what will you say?" I will be very happy but I don't trust you, you make me the same promise every night that you never keep"... [20 June 1845] (under cover of Mrs. L. Robert in Brussels), about her daughter Claire: "I know in advance all the affectionately respectful things she says to you, and, within a kiss, the indefinite number she sends you"... February 2 [March 1849]. "How good you are, my lovely beloved, and how much I thank you for coming to see me this evening"... - March 3. "Good morning, my poor little hoof, good morning, sleep well. I am there I love you and I kiss you with my soul not to wake up your dream"... 1851. - 27th July. It is hardly probable that you can come back this evening, my poor beloved"... - August 6th. "Hello, my more than beloved, hello, I adore you"... - September 15. "I have just burned the three letters that I had written to you today, my beloved, because I do not want you to know how far my madness and discouragement can go as soon as I am separated from you. This discouragement extends to my body whose life seems to withdraw as soon as your eyes don't animate my eyes anymore, as soon as your breath doesn't open my lips anymore, as soon as your kisses don't precipitate the beats of my heart anymore"... - September 19. "I have happiness of what to fill my two scribbles"... - "It does not pass any more of day now, my poor beloved, that does not bring a new violence, a low persecution on yours and on you"... - September 20. "Good morning, my beloved, good morning, sleep well. I love you"... - "Be quiet, my ineffable beloved, because it is me, only me that you love"... - October 7th. "Dear beloved, you believe perhaps that it is enough to leave me so that I resign myself not to see you anymore?"... - "Dear little man, it is probable that you go to bed at this moment"... - October 17. "Good morning, my poor beloved, good morning, beautiful day and happiness for you"... - November 4. "Dearly beloved, when you speak to me with so much sweetness and so much goodness I am tempted to turn around to see to whom all these ineffable tenderness are addressed"... Guernsey January 26, 1858. She is waiting for her beer merchant, and is anxious to return "to my post which I love because it is where I have the most chance to see you"... Guernsey January 1, 1879. "Dear great beloved, it is already a long time since my heart took the initiative of your ardent and holy prayer since it dates from the first day when I gave myself to you. Since then I have not spent a day, not an hour, not a minute without repeating it to God and to our dear souls who will witness to it at the supreme hour of our eternity"... - May 21. "What a good, generous, adorable letter you wrote me [...] I try to deserve it in the eyes of God and our angels who see my soul"...
