To the French ambassador to Spain, concerning the galley slaves. "Some poor women of the city of Dieppe La Rochelle and other places of this Kingdom, being in great number, came to make complaints and doleances to the King Monsieur my son [François II] and to me, with the greatest pity and desolation that it is possible. As the King despises my son-in-law [Philippe II], still holds on his galleys, and elsewhere in his obedience, thirteen hundred French prisoners, both husbands and children of the said women"... She demands their release...
