ENGLAND 12 letters and documents addressed to Jean de SELVE, 1514; 16 pages in-fol. or in-4. Set of letters and documents on the embassy to the court of HENRY VIII to negotiate peace with England, from the archives of Jean de SELVE (1475 - 1529), first president of the Parliament of Normandy, and one of the ambassadors. [The Treaty of London, signed on August 7, 1514, sealed the peace between the two kingdoms, after the English expedition of the summer of 1513 which had taken Thérouanne and Tournai. Its main provisions included a commitment to peace during the lives of both sovereigns, and up to one year after the death of one of them; the return to France of the cities of Thérouanne and Tournai; and the re-establishment of commercial relations between the two countries. The same day a marriage contract was signed between Louis XII and Henry VIII's sister, Mary Tudor] Minute of letter from Jean de Selve to "Mon Seigneur", Boulogne December 22 [1513]. Copy of LOUIS XII's instructions for negotiating the treaty, [29 March 1514], and copy of another letter "serving as a memorandum" (probably transcripts of encrypted letters). Draft memorandum of agreement for the treaty written by Étienne PONCHER (1446 - 1524, bishop of Paris and keeper of the seals), in French and Latin, on behalf of Louis XII. "Instructions to the duke of ALBANYE my cousin for the Kingdom of Scotland". Corrected minute of harangue to Henry VIII by Jean de Selve (in Latin). 5 L.A.S. or L.S. addressed to President de SELVE, August-September 1514: Louis d'HALLEWIN, governor of Picardy (Montreuil July 24); LABATYE (August 28, long letter on Scotland); Valeran de MARIGNY (2 letters from London, August 29 and Tuesday, on the departure of the duke of Longueville, and the clothes for the Queen), etc. Handwritten genealogy made by an Englishman, from King Charles V of France to Louis XI and Henry VIII.
