Silver carriage watch with a single hand and alarm function Hinged case, smooth bezel, chased caseband pierced with foliage motifs, a monkey, a dog, a squirrel and a hare, smooth back with an entourage of ears of wheat, safety catch and the bezel with a ring. White enamel dial with a single hand, Roman numerals for the hours, minute track and indication for the half-hour. Mechanical movement with key winding, verge escapement, balance spring, spindle and chain, chased and pierced cock, disc for the balance spring, setting pawl, disc for the alarm bell, signature on the plate "Nicolas Gribelin à Paris". Diam. 10,5 cm Gross weight. 1.24 kg The Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, Tardy, mentions Nicolas Gribelin, son of Abraham, on p. 274. Born in Blois, he became a Monseigneur's watchmaker in Paris in 1674, then Guild Master in 1676. He had a long life, dying at 82 in 1719. The notice indicates that there is a watch "In the Orleans Museum: an onion with a single hand: Nicolas Gribelin in Paris".
