1962 JAGUAR TYPE E ROADSTER 3.8 SÉRIE 1 EX SYLVAIN GARANT
French registration title Chassis n°877183 Sold new in France by Delecroix Garage Bought new by Sylvain Garant, then Ferrari 250 GTO driver Racing history of the period Version 3.8 Series 1 sought after Nice working condition and presentation Sylvain Garant started racing late in life, at the age of 37. This authentic gentleman driver waited until he had a solid base in his business before launching himself into car racing. Once launched, he showed a real bulimia, running for more than 10 years, taking the start of the most beautiful events (Tour de France Automobile, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1000 Kilometers of Paris, 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring or Targa Florio) at the wheel of the most beautiful cars. In love with beautiful and powerful mecha - nics, he will be for a long time faithful to Ferrari, owning successively the three most beautiful of the 250 series: GT, GTO and LM... Before falling in love with the most exclusive Porsche 911 (ST in particular). His very extensive career, which includes a title of Champion of France in 1968, makes him one of the most versatile and successful private drivers of his generation. If his career is closely linked to Ferrari and then Porsche, we should not forget that Sylvain Garant started at the wheel of a more modest Jaguar E-Type. In 1962, he ordered the car that illustrates these pages from the French importer of the brand, the Delecroix Garage, in Paris. The left-hand drive roadster (Open Two-seater) chassis number 877186 was delivered to him on April 25. Although the car is now in a very nice grey color, it was origi - nally creamy white with black interior and soft top. We know that this car was initially intended for his pleasure, but that he took advantage of his vacations to enter the 6th Rallye des Violettes, which took place in the Pyrenees in the summer of 1962. Perfectly neophyte, and without a co-driver (!), he nevertheless managed to make the 5th time in the scratch... and win his class! Encouraged by this result, he took part in the famous Mont-Dore hillclimb. The competition is tough, but our gent - leman driver is nevertheless ranked 12th. A month later, he took part in the Grand Prix of Albi, which inaugurated the Circuit du Séquestre that year. He finished 3rd and, having run out of brakes, realized that he had to change his ride in order to compete at the top of the ranking. A month later, he was given his brand new Ferrari 250 GT at the Cognac Rally... We don’t know much about Sylvain Garant’s E-Type, but the car is now in a very good condi - tion, both cosmetically and mechanically. The day before our test drive, its current owner had just participated to a two-day rally totaling more than 600 km, without any problem. Note that if the block is not matching numbers, the cylinder head number R5085-8 is the original one. The first series E-Type 3.8 roadsters are sought-after cars, and finding one that has been raced, and moreover in the hands of one of the most endea - ring French drivers of the 1960s, is an opportunity not to be missed. Notice to all historical car lovers.
