URWERK
No. 5/25 Réf. UR 103 A 18k gold wristwatch, manual winding. Dim. 36 x 48 mm Poids brut. 150 gr This rare and sought-after timepiece has remained in the family of its original owner, and is one of a limited series of 25 produced by the independent watchmaker Urwerk in 2003 for the Baselworld fair. It comes in two versions: white gold or rose gold, as with the one here. This young independent brand, launched by two talented watchmakers, Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner, has constantly broken new ground, taking its inspiration from the "wandering hours" reading system based on rotating discs used by various late 18th century watchmakers. Launched in 1997, Urwerk quickly became a reference brand among independent Swiss watchmakers: far from a foregone conclusion, since the two founders staked their all at a time when independent watchmaking was still in its infancy. The UR 103 is the culmination of years of research and testing. As Baumgartner himself says with a certain pride, "The UR 103 is the result of almost three years of development and two further years of testing. The outcome exceeded all our hopes." This sums up the philosophy behind the design of this iconic model by Urwerk, a little-known brand, which at the time drew the enlightened eye of a collector alert to a watchmaking design and creation pushed to extremes by two enthusiasts.
