1987 Peugeot 205 GTI 1,9 - Lot 4
1987 Peugeot 205 GTI 1,9 French registration Chassis number VF3741C8607718365 Less than 7,000 km from new Exceptional state of preservation Clear history, purchase invoice, logbooks, and spare keys One of the very first GTI 1,9 with the rare series 1 dashboard What an event the release of the 205 GTI! At last a French sports car that competes with the German ones. The press praised its performance and the little Sochalienne was named Sports Car of the Year by Echappement magazine in 1984. At last, a “chic and sporty” car that would become the symbol of a whole generation. To compete with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the real instigator of the GTI line, Peugeot unveiled the 205 GTI 1.6 at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show. The following year, the victory of the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 in the World Rally Championship definitively established the image of the 205 GTI. Homogeneous, powerful and sold at an affordable price, it was unanimously approved by journalists and enthusiasts. The 205 GTI 1,9 that we present to you was sold new by the A.G.A dealership in Orléans on 26 February 1987. Its owner, Mrs Biron, then aged 60, received the registration 6808 SV 45. When she died in 2009, a distant cousin inherited the car. As he did not use it, he decided to sell it in 2011, at which time its previous owner acquired it. The car had only 5,831 km on the odometer at the time, and as it had not been driven in the previous years, a general overhaul was carried out by a profes - sional before the mechanics were put back into operation. Since then, the car has been meticulously maintained, a full service inclu - ding timing belt change, all fluids changed and exhaust replaced was carried out in May 2019, the odometer still only showing 6,719km. In November 2019, Aguttes achieved a record auction with this car and thus gave the model a real boost on the market to all variations of this popular model. Since then, the car has been living happily in central France in an excep - tional collection of some of the most beautiful and prestigious cars from Italy, England and Germany As its solid record attests, it belongs to the first vintage. In other words, the most sought after today by collectors who are fond of the first two-spoke dashboard and steering wheel, replaced in September 1987. Accompanied by its service booklet, user manuals, spare keys and purchase invoice, this car is today in an exceptional state of preservation and had only 6,928 km on the odometer the day we made the photo report. The bodywork has been professionally polished to restore the original MOTW graphite grey paint. The interior is superb, the red carpets are bright, the semileather upholstery is in new condition, as well as the dashboard which shows no defects. Of course, the whole thing is the original interior and in no way the current remanufacturing.   During the test drive, we were in the hands of a brand new car: no noise disturbed the driving of the car, the XU9JA took its turns perfectly and we were enchanted by every acceleration. Proof of this excellent condition is the fact that the technical inspection is still valid and shows no defects. With its extremely low mileage, its exceptional state of preservation and the fact that it is one of the oldest 1,9, this 205 deserves the attention of the most demanding collectors.
