1926 LORRAINE DIETRICH A4 TORPÉDO SPORT
Superb restoration Perfect mechanics € 25,000 of invoices French historic registration tittle Chassis n° 150743 In 1897 Baron Eugene de Dietrich founded the «Société de Dietrich et compagnie de Lunéville» to manufacture wagons for the French railroads. The same year he acquired the patent of Amédée Bollée son, heir to one of the pioneers of the automobile in France, and began to manufacture cars. At the turn of the 20th century, the company recruited automotive engineers, including Ettore Bugatti, who later founded the brand that bears his name. In 1905 De Dietrich withdrew from the business and the company evolved into a public limited company whose full name was «Société Lorraine des anciens établissements de Dietrich et Cie de Lunéville», commonly called Lorraine-Dietrich. The models follow one another until the First World War. Lorraine-Dietrich acquired a very strong reputation in competition. The brand’s record of achievements includes victories in the Paris-Madrid race in 1903 and in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1925, as well as a triple win in 1926. The Lorraine-Dietrich A4 is the entry-level model of the brand. It is powered by a 4-cylinder 2,296 cc engine with overhead valves developing 10/12 HP. Its mechanics is more modest than the six cylinders of its big sisters but it benefits from the same quality of manufacture. The Lorraine-Dietrich we present was bought by its current owner about ten years ago in the Nancy area. At that time, the chassis was bare, only equipped with its mechanics and accompanied by some body parts including the 4 fenders, the hood, the windshield, the running boards and the headlights. The restoration project began in 2012 with the fabrication of a wooden frame in ash which required 200 hours of work. The following year the car passed through the hands of the sheet metal worker who dressed the wooden structure. Once finished, the new body receives its current blue paint. The interior will be entirely fitted out by the saddler with a brown leather covering. We will note that this car is equipped with a superb dashboard in wood decorated with various instruments O.S. Under the hood, we find a 4 -ylinder type 27 bearing the number #160777. This car works wonderfully, we were pleasantly surprised by its behavior during our road test. Its engine easily reaches 80 km/h and its braking is efficient. Almost 10 years after its restoration, this superb car is still in a magnificent condition, its owner has taken great care of it and is now reluctantly parting with it. Our elegant torpedo with its prestigious name will certainly give you a lot of pleasure during your sunny rides.
