1931 RILEY NINE MONACO
Rare Monaco version, identical to the works cars entered in 1932 History known since the origin Stunning state of preservation French historic registration title Chassis n° 6013505 In 1926, the Riley brothers presented the Nine, which was their first commercial success. The chassis, suspension and bodywork were designed by Stanley Riley, while his brother Percy designed the engine. This base car would be produced in two body styles, a 4-seater Tourer and the Monaco Saloon, like the car shown here. The Riley we present was delivered new to Leverett’s London garage on 11 May 1932. The original purchase invoice, which is still on file, states that the car was fitted with the rare Rally Kit from the factory. This preparation, intended for potential participants in the Monte Carlo Rally, included a prepared cylinder head, a twin SU carburettor, a larger fuel tank and... a spare wheel! Its first owner kept the car for nearly forty years before selling it to a collector who in turn sold it to Gerry Dick, Riley driver and President of the Riley Register Club. He used the car on a regular basis, taking it on trips to Europe once a year. He will take care to keep it in cosmetic condition and maintain it meticulously. It is to him that we owe the incredible condition in which we discover it today. All the maintenance invoices are still on file along with photographs taken during his travels. The current owner purchased the car from the family of Gerry Dick. Thanks to the careful maintenance of the car, it is still in very good condition. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt in 2019 by a German specialist and the wiring harness was restored as well as the dynamo. The patina of this car is exceptional: the burgundy leather interior is very clean, the headliner and sunroof are very nice and the paintwork is largely original, as only the bonnet had to be repainted in the 1980’s (invoice attached). The current owner has used this car on a regular basis, both for Sunday drives and for larger rallies. For pre-war enthusiasts, this Riley with its stunning patina and rally preparation is an ideal companion for your future drives!
