1973 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SHADOW
Known history Elegant configuration More than €15,000 of invoices French historic registration title Chassis n° SRH16663 Rolls-Royce’s flagship, the Silver Shadow was presented at the 1965 London Motor Show after ten years of design and development. It combines finesse, charm and comfort like no other car at the time. Its production was a historic revolution for the British marque as it was the first Rolls designed to be driven by its owner and not by a chauffeur. The new production saloon retained the engine and Hydramatic gearbox of the later Silver Clouds, but now had a monocoque body with rear suspension and coil springs, and was now equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. It was an unpredictable commercial success until 1976 with almost 20,000 units sold in all versions. Nevertheless, in 1977 the British manufacturer had to face the competition and decided to give a symbolic facelift to its Silver Shadow while waiting for the arrival of the Silver Spirit in 1980. With this model, Rolls-Royce deliberately left its comfort zone, abandoning the noble and very British forms of the Silver Cloud. The Silver Shadow helped bring Rolls-Royce into the modern era of motoring. The model we are presenting was introduced in 1973 in England. It was first owned by English footballer Thomas Smith who spent most of his career at Liverpool as a defender. The car then belonged to an English diplomat based in Monaco before moving to Savoie in 2015. Our example is presented in its original configuration with an elegant two-tone Silver mink and Peacock blue colour scheme. The interior features Dark blue leather upholstery combined with blue carpets. The current owner purchased the car in 2017 and undertook extensive work to make the beautiful English car more reliable. The work was carried out by the Prestige Automotiv garage, which specialises in the restoration of Rolls-Royces. The engine and gearbox were removed to allow the replacement of all the seals, the suspension system was completely overhauled and many peripheral parts were replaced. Inside, the leather was restored and the woodwork was re-varnished. The car is now in a very good general condition, with only a few traces of corrosion. A rare feature is the presence of the car’s service booklet, which shows that the car has been regularly serviced only by specialists. It also certifies that the car has been driven 90,700 miles. With its reliable mechanics and elegant configuration, our beautiful Silver Shadow will seduce collectors in search of luxury and comfort.
