1991 PORSCHE 964 (965) TURBO 3.3
Sold new in France 3rd hand Only 42 000 original kilometers French registration title Chassis n° WPOZZZ96ZMS470168 The unheralded success of the 911 was achieved through subtle developments. At the end of the 1980s, Porsche worked on a replacement for the 3.2L and presented the 964 at the Paris Motor Show in September 1988. It was the first four-wheel drive car in the history of Porsche. The two-wheel drive version was released the following year with the Targa and cabriolet versions. All three body styles will be available with either 2WD or 4WD. The 964’s career was short, lasting four years, and just over 31,000 were produced. The quintessence of this generation was the now legendary Turbo, presented at the 1990 Geneva Motor Show. The engine capacity was first 3.3 litres and then 3.6 litres, developing 320 and 360 bhp respectively. While the first car was based on the engine of the 930, the second car had the new all-aluminium block of the Carrera RS The Porsche 964 Turbo, or 965, presented in these pages is a car first put on the road in France on the 11 of January 1991. Sold new by the Loire Auto garage in Loiret to Mr P, it has the interesting factory options of sports seats, auto-lock, sunroof and Porsche CD radio. The bodywork is in elegant metallic black and the interior is in grey leather. The car spent the first few years of its life in the Nantes region before being sold to a mechanical enthusiast from Sologne in December 1997, when the odometer showed only 10,150 kilometres. He kept it until 2005, when the odometer showed only 29,550 kilometres since leaving the factory. This gentleman took the 965 back to buy a Land Cruiser and the car remained in the garage of Mr C, a great lover of beautiful cars, for 4 years before he bought it in his own name. To date, the car has only covered about 42,000 kilometres. The paintwork is still the original except for the lower part of the rear wings which was repainted following the impact of gravel. The maintenance has always been done in a Porsche dealership or by Mr C’s garage. Recently, a major check-up was carried out by the Porsche centre in Tours to allow the new owner to travel all distances with peace of mind with the sound of the flat 6 Turbo. We were delighted with our test drive: the car is incredibly «fresh» without any disturbing noise or driving faults. The power available thanks to the KKK turbo will surprise many a sports car driver on the road and the brakes are devilishly effective at all speeds. The beautiful 964 will be sold with its booklets, including the 1992 Relais et Châteaux guide, and its spare keys with the original alarm plip still functional. Few Porsche 964 Turbo’s are on the market in this state of preservation and with its clear history; needless to say, this represents a great opportunity for the enthusiast.
