MAGRITTE RENÉ (1898-1967). - Lot 138
MAGRITTE RENÉ (1898-1967). L.A.S. "Magritte" with DRAWING, Le Cocq Friday [October 1946], to Jacques WERGIFOSSE, Le Zoute; 2 pages in-8 on a lined bifeuillet, envelope. Letter illustrated with a pen-and-ink drawing. Magritte, who is staying at the "Hôtel Littoral" on the Digue at Le Cocq-sur-Mer, invites his young friend, the poet Jacques Wergifosse (1928-2006), to join him. "Here I am, too, until the end of the month, near the wet sea and near the dry sand. Will you come to this place? By bike, motorbike, plane, etc... I would like to see your mountain come to me"... His cover will be retained. He adds that Paul Nougé is arriving the next day and "Mariën perhaps on Sunday". The drawing, in black ink, occupies the 4th page (about 9 x 11 cm). It represents a bird seen in profile, whose tail ends in a bouquet of flowers, with the caption "New bird". Five small original photographs (from 9,5 x 5,8 to 4 x 3 cm), in black and white, representing Magritte at the seaside, are attached.
