1964 FORD Mustang 289 Code K
Genuine K code Interesting history Recent expenses French registration title Chassis n° 5R07K137401 On the 17th of April 1964, Ford reveals its new model in New-York, the Mustang. It had the effect of a bomb on the American car market: 22 000 cars were ordered that day. Lee Iacocca, Ford’s General Manager at the time, had just launched the new Pony Car concept: a compact, European-inspired, low-budget car that could be customized as desired. As early as 1964, the Mustang was available as a coupe and convertible, a range to which a fastback body was added in 1965. Three engines were available, the 2.8-litre in-line 6-cylinder, a 260 ci V8 (4.2 l) and the excellent 289ci V8 (4.7 l). From 1966, the model exceeded one million units produced, and its young, trendy and sporty image attracted tuners such as Carroll Shelby, who will have many successes with its GT 350 and 500 versions. France did not escape the myth: Claude Lelouch, assisted by Henri Chemin, then director of public relations at Ford, will enter a Mustang in the Monte Carlo Rally in his movie “Un homme et une femme”. The same Henri Chemin then hired Johnny Hallyday for the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally, another marketing coup which cemented the Mustang’s position as a poster car in the hearts of the French youth. The Mustang presented here is a very rare Code K in Wimbledon white with a black leather interior. It was ordered in November 1964, probably by an enlightened motorsport enthusiast considering the configuration of the car: 271 hp High Performance engine, 4-speed gearbox, 3.89 short axle, Rally pack, belts... The original order form and service book are still present ! Built at the San Jose factory in California, it was delivered to the California Motor Garage in Glendale at the end of 1964, to be given to the owner, a certain Mr. Stobie, with the registration number PBN 455. It changed hands in 1973 and then several owners f ollowed, always in California, before it moved to Arkansas. In 2005 it is again for sale and it is a French collector who imports it in our country, destination Nice. The car will always be maintained by renowned specialists and is bought in 2014 by the current owner. The engine will be entirely reconditioned in June 2020 with the replacement of the connecting rod bearings, the rectification of the block, the transformation of the cylinder heads to allow unleaded fuel and the installation of a new clutch. Our test drive will confirm the very good overall condition of the Mustang. The engine is incredibly torquey and powerful, the gearbox precise, the brakes efficient... Few authentic «Code Ks» are available on the market: we offer you here a rare chance to acquire a model that will satisfy all Mustang lovers.
