1967 CITROËN AMI 6 BREAK
No reserve Color Red Corsair AC 403 Nice condition Vintage Continental Edison car radio French registration title Chassis n° 9924613 The Citroën catalog of the mid 1950s is quite limited. The 2 CV is an alternative to the popular and cheap car, and the DS to the comfortable and revolutionary luxury car. The objective for the early 1960s was to add a mid-range model to these two models. The design offices therefore worked on a project for an intermediate vehicle called the AM (M for mid-range). In the end, technical and economic constraints redirect the project towards the realization of a «Super 2 CV», on the basis of the same platform, but with a new engine of 602cc, to remain within the administrative limit of 3 fiscal CVs. Initially, management did not want a utility line, nor a hatchback, but Flaminio Bertoni found a solution: reversing the slope of the rear window, to offer more comfort to the rear passengers. This is the famous Z line, which will be found on some English Fords, including the Anglia. Released in 1961, the Citroën Ami 6, with a more powerful engine and a more comfortable interior than the 2CV, also innovates on the sociological level by presenting itself on advertising documents, in the midst of the consumer society, as the ideal second car for women. It is worth noting that Madame Yvonne de Gaulle drove an Ami 6 sedan in Carrara white (AC144). In January 1964, the range was extended with the appearance of a station wagon version which quickly exceeded the production and sales figures of the sedan. Its more conventional lines (which also gave it better aerodynamics) and its utility function were more appreciated in rural areas. The station wagon was, according to the slogan of the time, «the cheapest comfort mile in the world», and thanks to it, the Ami 6 was the best-selling car in France in 1966! The Ami 6 will be manufactured until 1969 with more than one million copies... The Ami 6 that we present is a station wagon version put on the road on September 9th 1967. The car is in good condition, having been painted in its nice and interesting original color AC 403 Corsair Red. If the bodywork shows some defects, the base is globally sound despite some rust spots. In particular, the front floorboards will need to be repaired in two or three places. The original interior has also been through a lot: the front seat covers are faded and quite damaged. The mechanics work well, and the road test was quite conclusive. Nevertheless, the clutch will have to be redone, by tightening the cable first, in order to take full advantage of its centrifugal function. With its color, its centrifugal clutch and its rare Continental Edison radio (period option), this Ami 6 will satisfy the informed Citroënist or a young enthusiast wishing to own an emblematic Citroën of the 1960’s, quickly usable.
