SUAREZ Jean-François (15 ?-16 ?) jésuite, philosophe et théologien, professeur au collège de Clermont à Paris
2 L.A.S. "Jehan Fran. Suares" and "Jehan Francois Suares", Rome 1590-1591, to his sister, Hélène de SUAREZ, in Avignon; 1 page in-fol. each with address on the back, seal under paper on the 1st (small hole and a missing corner repaired without loss of text on the 2nd). 6 December 1590. The desire of his "sister bien-aymee" of his letters, and his own to satisfy it, "did not give me leave to stay longer in silence, how much longer than the writing that I do every day of three hours in Theology can dispense me precisely from it; Fearing to fall into the illness, into which many fall icy for the sake of writing too much, to guard myself from which I am sure that your charity, woven in a prudent wisdom, will excuse me, if I write little, and rarely. Wish me that you should suffice the assurance that has been written in the sweat of my sweat more immortally than in marble; especially while you continue to be a devotee; and that frequent the sacraments, and preachings, by which I make you worthy to be immortalized in Heaven, where I desire to see you, and isre illec want you in the celestial court benissans, and endless praises with the celestial citizens these sovereign, and divine majesty, which I beg fountain of all good, to flow in your soul a stream of blessings"... He adds "the news of Gregory XIIII, elected yesterday"... 23rd February 1591. He rejoices in "your holy lives, and your devout resolutions, and your constancy in the divine service", where "rest, and the true contentment of the Soul is found. The pleasures, and recreations of the worldly ones, crawl the sweat of a thousand and one thousand poisonous bitternesses, which kill our Soul"... Etc
