GANDHI Mohandas Karamchand (1869-1948) le grand philosophe et patriote de l'Inde
L.A.S., [Poona] 3 September 1930, to Mrs. KHAMBATTA; 2 pages in-12, ink stamp 7544; in Gujarati. Beautiful letter from prison to the wife of his friend. [The letter is addressed to the wife of his friend Dr. Behram Navroji Khambatta. Gandhi has been held since May in Jerovila prison in Poona, following the "Salt March", to defy the salt laws; he was not released until January 1931].] He can understand his friend's feelings very well, since the good Khambatta must now take part in the war. He agrees with her. It is our duty to take care of our bodies as best we can. But if you can only do your duty by sacrificing your life for it, then he thinks it is the only right thing to do. So, in case that happens, he believes that both she and her husband must be prepared to give their lives. They must never forget that God gives all those who fight for justice enough strength to endure all suffering"
