L.A.S. "Alfred de Vigny", [Le Maine-Giraud] November 30, 1850, to Doctor MONTALEMBERT; 2 pages in-8. To his doctor in Angoulême. He asked him to return to M. Castaigne (the librarian of Angoulême) two issues of the Revue des deux mondes. "I beg him to leave Homer with me for a little while longer. If he could send me the old translation with the Greek text or at least the Latin literal translation it would give me great pleasure, for quotations that keep me busy. I will bring him the System of the Place". He no longer has "these fleeting and nervous pains since November 13. But the little packets of your Bismuth are sold out"; he asks for more... The letter is mounted in a volume: A. de Vigny, Théâtre. La Maréchale d'Ancre. Chatterton. Quitte pour la peur (Delloye et Lecou, 1838); in-8, contemporary red half calf binding, spine covered with gold and cold gold ornaments and lace, jaspered edges, covers (cover defects, freckles, rubbed hinges), with a.s. dispatch. M. Villemain on behalf of the author Alfred de Vigny"; the piece Quitte pour la peur is here in original edition
