STEVENSON Robert-Louis (1850-1894)
L.A.S. "R.L. Stevenson", [Vailima, Samoa, circa 1893, to his lawyer Mr CARRUTHERS]; 1 page small in-8; in English. Stevenson points out to Carruthers that there is still no answer from him, and he mentions his illness... "Please do not let us have what happened before; and if your own employees are ever driven, employ whom you like. I only want the business done. I am still rather under the faàmai, but not so very bad either; only don't recover"... [The Samoan word faàmai means meningococci, an often fatal disease typical of Asian countries. Stevenson was in poor health and died at the age of forty-four of a stroke in Vailima, Samoa, whose tropical climate was beneficial to his respiratory problems].
