MUSSET Alfred de (1810-1857)
L.A.S. "Alfd de Musset", May 5 [1845], to Caroline JAUBERT his "dear godmother"; 1 page and a half in-8. Nice letter to his "godmother". "You may believe, my dear godmother, that I have not answered you; but I went twice to your house, where I did not find you, of course, and I had no map, of course still. Today I am in the arms of a huge cataplasm that seems to be very much attached to my person - this is what makes me take up the pen (Jean-Jean style) to write to you. You are not without knowing that I have just missed dying so as not to lose the habit, and that I have made, with this grace that belongs to me, my springtime chest fluxion. At the moment I am going to take refuge in the land of the Vosges and perhaps even as far as Plombières, in order to refresh my mind by drinking milk and watching the mazurke dance. You should also know, godmother, that Mr. Chomel declared, by Aristotle and Hippocrates, that I should never be ill. I ask you if this is encouraging"... He supposes she'll be running this summer, probably seeing Marly again, etc... "Try to find some of my sighs, if they grew in these beautiful places. In exchange for this souvenir, I'll bring you back some shells."
