MANUSCRIPT autograph signed "Charles Gounod", [early November 1853]; 2 pages in-4. Nice article on his father-in-law, the composer and piano teacher Pierre-Joseph-Guillaume ZIMMERMAN (1785-1853), whose funeral took place on October 31. Gounod praises the human and artistic gifts of Zimmerman, "the famous piano teacher, composer, Inspector of Studies at the Imperial Conservatory of Music [...]....] This artist, eminent in talent, even in wisdom, young in heart, this artist to whom the art of music and the art of the Piano in particular are indebted for so many and such great services, this benevolent and beneficent man to the highest degree, [...] one of those rare and rich natures for whom doing well and doing good is the fundamental and immutable rule of life".... His talent, his work, his spirit had earned him a European reputation, a universal consideration in the world of the arts, of which he had become an intelligent and generous centre.... Then Gounod evokes the funeral service up to the simple and touching speech of Baron Taylor at the Auteuil cemetery...
