MAGRITTE René (1898-1967)
L.A.S. "René Magritte", Brussels 18 November 1964, to Henri MICHAUX; 1 page in-8 at his header and address. He no longer has Paul NOUGÉ's book Histoire de ne pas rire, as he distributed all his copies over time. "I met a lot of people in Paris, (there are a lot of people and households in France who visit the exhibitions). Fortunately, I saw you again in the best conditions I could have wished for and, a nice surprise awaited me: the interest you showed in my activity. I am looking forward to reading soon what you think about the pictures I painted and which I hope are poetic" . After his discovery of Magritte's paintings at Alexander Iolas in Paris, MICHAUX undertook to write 27 poems in prose, inspired by as many paintings, "supports for meditation". The text was published in the Mercure de France of December 1964, under the title En rêvant à partir de peintures énigmatiques. Paul NOUGÉ's book, Histoire de ne pas rire, a collection of some forty texts, was published by Les Lèvres Nues in 1956, notably on Magritte].
