ERRÖ (né en 1932)
Somebody's missing, 2019 Collage on paper signed and dated on the back 31.5 x 41 cm 12 13⁄32 x 16 9/64 in. A certificate of authenticity signed by the artist will be given to the purchaser Errö is an Icelandic artist born in 1932 in Olafsvik who was the leader of narrative figuration. He moved to Paris in 1958 and met the artists and writers of the surrealist movement. In his work he made the link between his collage art and the automatic writing theorized by André Breton. In 1963-1964 he travelled to New York and discovered the American culture of mass consumption which was the subject of his creations. He appropriated ready-made images from comic books, advertisements, postcards and reproductions of works of art from all over the world, which he assembled and then painted. The profusion of references works like a network that feeds itself constantly. On the collages, real and fictitious characters meet, and his work finally highlights the importance of cultural transfers in a world saturated with images.
