PROVENANCE Private collection, London Chayan Khoi Chayan Khoi was born in 1963 in Tehran and works in Paris. A true globetrotter and citizen of the world, he makes travel the center of his artistic research. His mediums are varied. At the beginning of his career, he was interested in photography and painting. The photographs are reworked to create a form of "cybernealism", a neologism coined by the artist, a term combining cybernetics and realism. At the turn of the 2000s, he turned to more traditional and artisanal forms of creation, including his travel journals. The artist's Konya Sufism Travel Notebook is presented as a large book made of thick sheets of paper and animal skins. Chayan Khoi has composed collages on each page, affixed color and material, in an exceptional set that has as its subject the practice of Sufism, a spiritual, mystical and esoteric branch of Islam. There are pages of cursive calligraphy, and the whole is reminiscent of Persian literature. Turning the pages of this marvellous notebook is a journey with the artist. The pages have been impregnated with perfume, patchouli and incense to complete the experience.
