An exceptional pair of large Hu-shaped vases, in gilt bronze and polychrome cloisonné enamels on a blue-green background, decorated with the so-called "hundred deer", the deer moving in meadows, among rocks, pines and waterfalls on a background of mountain scenery, the neck enhanced by two gilt embossed copper handles depicting stylized dragons, the base gilt. H. 44.3 cm (The enamel on the body of one of the vases is missing, the base gilded with mercury) Note This model is mostly known in porcelain. Very popular from the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795), it remained so until the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). It is on the other hand much rarer in bronze and cloisonné enamels.
