1986 BMW M535i E28
French copy, 3rd hand Only 164,000 km Original Service Booklet French car registration document Chassis No.: WBADC710800643760 If the M saga began with the M1 developed specifically for competition, the 5 series was the first sedan of the brand on which the famous M was grafted. However, BMW's Motorsport department didn't immediately look under the hood of the M535i. Probably annoyed by the talented tuners from across the Rhine, the Bavarian brand quickly rectified the situation by producing the first M5 in 1985. However, the M535i E28 was already doing the job, with more than remarkable performance for a sedan of the time. With 218 bhp and 310 Nm, the melodious, high-performance inline-six propelled the M535i to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds, and covered the standing start mile in less than 28 seconds. Thanks to its excellent chassis, the Munich sedan was able to keep the competition at bay with relative ease. With just under 10,000 units produced, the M535i remains a model that is difficult to find in good condition and in its original configuration. Many of them have sometimes suffered from overly optimistic driving or a lack of care. The car we are offering is of French origin and was delivered new by the BMW dealer in Montargis in October 1986, as attested by its service booklet. This M535i comes in its original alpinweiss colour, with the Shadowline finish, and fitted with its original TRX. It is equipped with its M-Tech body kit but also with a rear spoiler most probably original Hartge. The car has never left the Loiret department as shown by its registration 6502 ST 45 which it carried until 2019. At that time, it had only two owners and is now in the hands of the third one, also living in this department. On the day of our test, the odometer read only 163,750 kilometers, which seems to be its original mileage. Indeed, this M535i looks good and the overall look of the car is consistent with what the dashboard indicates. The alignments are perfect, the body is sound and doesn't seem to bear the slightest trace of a collision or accident. This is a particularly well-preserved car with a known history. Behind the wheel, getting behind the wheel of an 80s BMW is as exhilarating as ever. The 5-speed Getrag gearbox (combined with a 25% limited-slip gearbox) is perfectly within reach and the inline six is just begging to climb the towers. Extra. The grey velvet upholstery is generally well preserved, while the presence of the Blaupunkt car radio with its offset equalizer is a real ode to the money and show-off years, a whole era... This beautiful M535i has many assets and represents the opportunity to acquire an authentic and iconic youngtimer for a reasonable price.
