1950 Fiat 1100 ES COUPÉ Pinin Farina
Superb patina, smart restoration Original engine and only 3 owners Extremely rare and eligible for the Mille Miglia Moroccan circulation permit Chassis: 1100 ES 500435 Engine: 1100 S 500452 In the aftermath of the Second World War, Fiat is in a complicated economic situation. With the help of the Marshall Plan, the factories destroyed during the war were rebuilt and the Turin-based manufacturer recovered a production rate worthy of the 1930s. New models were then introduced on the market, among them the Fiat 1100, which was available in several versions, including a rare Coupé by Pinin Farina, more elegant and more typical of the Grand Touring segment with a more luxurious interior and, above all, a well-balanced line reminiscent of the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT... Presented in 1949, The Fiat Coupé retains the elegant windscreen but features a more curved and slender body, reminiscent of the most beautiful Italian bodies such as Maserati, Siata, Stanguelini or Cisitalia. While the exterior of the S and ES are no different, the interior is more spartan in the S version, while the ES has a more complete dashboard, a front bench rather than two separate seats and even a small bench in the back. Whether it's the push buttons, door accessories, spoiler latches or exterior handles, never has a Fiat pushed refinement so far into detail. This timeless beauty will be rewarded with a number of prizes won in elegance competitions, of which "officially" 400 examples will be produced until 1951. Today, there are less than ten Fiat 1100 ES Coupé Pinin Farina models in the world. The one we are presenting for sale today has a most singular history. #500435 came off the production lines of the Lingotto in Turin on June 5, 1950. It will be sent to the Pinin Farina carrozzeria on September 5 before returning to the Lingotto for its commissioning tests. It was then sent to the Fiat dealership in Bozano, in the north-east of Italy, but it certainly did not find a buyer there as it returned to Turin at the beginning of 1951 and was finally shipped to Morocco on 5 March to the Afric Auto garage in Casablanca. It is then that it obtains its first registration, having never had Italian plates before. Its very first owner, Noé Ceccheti, is of Italian origin. l Is he the one who is racing in the VI Rally of Morocco that same year? Or has he already sold it to Albert Manarino, who was at the start of the 12 Hours of Casablanca in 1952? On the indications of his friend and mentor Yves Joseph, an enlightened collector, its current owner, a Frenchman living in Morocco, discovered it in the mid-1980s. The Fiat is protected from humidity and bad weather in the basement of a building in Casablanca, but it has been the playground for the children of the neighbourhood! Despite this, the car is complete and "matching numbers", except for the windows and its specific hubcaps. Not afraid of the upcoming construction site, our amateur starts its restoration in the mid-90s. It will be spread over 15 years. It must be said that its owner is not at his trial but he lacks time. Its restoration completed, it will be exhibited at the 5th edition of the Gentleman Drivers Awards 2017 in Marrakech. On this occasion, its owner will win a prize of honour from the hands of Paolo Pininfarina! A few days ago, the car was overhauled at Atelier 46 near Paris with the complete overhaul of the tank, the fuel system and the carburetion adjustment. Extremely rare, less than 10 units of this model would remain eligible for the Mille Miglia and many other major events. Beautiful, rare, matching and with a limpid history, there is no doubt that this car is a nice discovery...
