ALEXANDRE II (1818-1881) Tsar de Russie
L.A., S.P. [St. Petersburg] January 25/February 6, 1868, to Catherine DOLGOROUKI, "KATIA"; 4 pages in-8 with her crowned figure (split center fold); in French with a few words in Russian in Latin alphabet. Mad love letter to Katia, referring to their bingerles (erotic frolics) while Katia is menstruating. The letter is started at 11 a.m. ½ in the morning: "Thanks to you, my beloved Angel, I feel all over again imbued with our good sunshine. You are quite right to say: that when we love each other as we do, we always have something to say to each other and it is our only consolation to talk in writing when we cannot be together. Nothing and no one can tear me away from you"... At 4 p.m. in the afternoon, he said how happy he was to have met Katia in the car: "Our handkerchiefs were able to express everything that overflowed from our hearts, which are one and the adorable expression of your dear eyes bewitched me even more. ...] it is you alone who ties me to life, for I would like to live to dedicate myself one day to you completely. [...] I feel very nervous and impatient to throw myself into your arms and I must confess to you that I have the rage to binge, but I predict, alas! that we will have to deprive ourselves of it, unless we become too unreasonable"... At midnight ½, back from the show to which he paid no attention: "My thoughts were elsewhere and I don't need to tell you where. I feel all imbued with our good evening, where you have been a true angel for me"... They are going to meet on Saturday "in our dear nest and make bingerle, which we miss horribly when we are deprived of it. Yet you have managed to make me enjoy myself even today"...
