1931 Hotchkiss TORPEDO AM2 - Lot 57
1931 Hotchkiss TORPEDO AM2 Known history since 1960 Rare Torpedo bodywork Inimitable patina French registration Chassis N°: 21404 Originally a manufacturer of weapons and ammunition, the Hotchkiss company represented France with dignity in the construction of quality cars from 1904 to 1955. The cross-barrelled brand is renowned for the robustness and reliability of its mechanics. After the Great War, Hotchkiss adopted a slogan that never left the brand and which became the unforgettable symbol of the brand « Hotchkiss, the brand of the happy medium ». Hotchkiss became in a very short time a reference brand in its field, being a car neither too small nor too big. The brand’s bourgeois clientele will appreciate above all the quality, comfort and discretion of Hotchkiss cars. The AM2 replaces the AM model with a new rocker engine. Its 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with side valves is highly efficient and well-balanced. It develops 56 hp and is coupled to a 4-speed gearbox. The example presented here is a body known as « la Savoisienne » and is presented to us in a remarkable state of preservation. It has been known since the early 1960s and was owned for more than five decades by Jacques Liscourt, a great collector of early French cars. According to the archives available with the car, it was bought from Henri Malartre in 1965 for the sum of 800 fr! The patina is charming, and the car is complete. Its original engine is well in place and running. The upholstery is period correct and this shows a high quality of manufacture. The soft top has just been restored with a very particular care. This is an opportunity to acquire a piece of French automotive history.
