Their goal was to create a vehicle with the same off-road abilities as the Land Rover, but with improved comfort and on-road performance. English and avant-garde, the Range Rover has become a legend over the years, with its stunning looks, comfort, impressive load capacity and above all its huge snob appeal! A pioneer in its category, it had what it took and achieved tremendous success with a well-heeled and unconventional clientele who were looking for a ‘Swiss army knife on wheels’. It is no longer unique but remains to this day the benchmark in the luxury 4WD market segment. Introduced to the market in 1970, the Range Rover Classic was produced for 26 years before making way for the more modern P38. The model celebrated its half-century in 2020, but at Rétromobile three years earlier Land Rover presented its “Range Rover Reborn” programme, which enabled diehard fans of the marque to acquire an original model restored by the factory. This rare Range Rover Classic is what is known as a “Suffix A” model, i.e. from the first series built before 1973. It was delivered new at Argenteuil by British Leyland France in July 1972. Before being acquired by its current owner, it had four previous owners, in Paris, Lyon and then Normandy. It has therefore always remained in France. In 2016, its latest owner decided to have the vehicle completely restored, meticulously respecting its original specification. The wellknown specialist Only Land, at Bourg-en-Bresse, was entrusted with giving the Range Rover a new lease of life.
