1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Rare 200-series 205 T16 Ex Peugeot-Talbot Info Rallye In same ownership since 1985 French registration papers Chassis no. VF3741R76E5100192 In 1983, when Peugeot launched the 205, the carmaker was in financial trouble and its future was dependent on the success of this new model. In order to boost its image, Peugeot decided to go into motorsport with a model close to the 205. The 205 Turbo 16 was therefore developed to compete in the World Rally Championship, in the top Group B category. The regulations required that 200 production cars be built for the model to be homologated. Peugeot presented the “200- series” 205 Turbo 16 at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show. This pumped-up version of the 205 was characterized by its body finished in Magnum Grey with a red pinstripe, which was built by Heuliez. It was then assembled by Peugeot Talbot Sport in Boulogne and fitted with an XU 4-cylinder 1.8-litre engine equipped with a turbocharger, enabling it to produce 200bhp. With all-wheel drive, it was formidably effective. Some customers even opted for a PTS kit that boosted its maximum power to 300bhp, almost as much as the competition version. Inside, the T16 had its own special dashboard with a multitude of gauges, a two-spoke steering wheel with the Turbo 16 logo and drilled aluminium pedals. The backrests of the dual-colour bucket seats, upholstered in leather and cloth, featured an imposing lion like a warrior’s coat-ofarms. In the end, 219 cars were built. Peugeot achieved its goal as the 205 Turbo 16 became one of the iconic cars in Group B, winning the championship in 1985 and 1986. The abolition of the category forced the T16 to retire early, but Peugeot successfully bounced back by entering the Paris-Dakar Rally. The model we are presenting for sale is a 200- series 205 T16, first registered on 1 March 1985. The car was used at the time by Peugeot-Talbot Info Rallye.
