PROVENANCE Galerie Protée, Paris Collection privée, France Wang Yancheng Born in 1960 in Guangdong province, Wan Yan Cheng is a Franco-Chinese painter who divides his time between Paris and Beijing. Wan Yan Cheng studied at the Shandong Institute of Fine Arts in Yantai before teaching and lecturing at the same institution. His training introduced him to Western art, which was then taught by Chinese artists who had travelled in Europe, especially in France. He was barely 30 when he went to France for the first time. After a stay in Saint-Etienne, he moved to Paris and split his time between there and Beijing. Since 1998 his work has been in Chinese public collections, including the Shenzhen Art Museum and the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. In 2002 he became Vice-President of IACA at UNESCO’s International Association of Fine Arts, which promotes international artistic and cultural collaboration. In 2010 the Musée de Mont-parnasse featured a series of recent works that will subsequently be exhibited in Beijing. A recognised artist, Wang Yan Cheng is proving to be the worthy successor of the first generations of Franco-Chinese artists such as Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun. Following the ideals and theories of lyrical abstraction, his pictorial freedom allows him to directly transcribe in his inner feelings. AC2021
