VU CAO DAM (1908-2000)
Vue de Béziers, automne 1951 Huile sur soie marouflée sur isorel, signée et datée en bas à gauche 46.5 x 61 cm - 18 5/16 x 24 3/16 in. Oil on silk mounted on hardboard, signed and dated lower left Une attestation d’inclusion au catalogue raisonné de l’artiste actuellement en préparation par Charlotte Reynier-Aguttes sera remise à l’acquéreur PROVENANCE Collection privée, France (offert par l’artiste et conservé depuis) Puis par descendance, Paris Francophone and francophile, if Vu Cao Dam is forced to leave the capital for health reasons he does not leave his adopted country for all that. The milder and milder climate of the South of France convinced the artist who took up residence in Béziers between 1949 and 1952. If the south and it’s so particular light have always inspired artists, Vu Cao Dam manages to stand out with an innovative vision. Thus in Vue de Béziers, automne, the artist offers a city representation caressed by the autumn light. The strength of this work lies in the great mastery of the principles of Western painting. The three planes are arranged in a traditional way thanks to a perfect perspective. If the subject and its treatment are similar to Western culture, silk painting remains specific to the Vietnamese origins of the artist and breathes a new freshness into a classical composition.
