Louis XIII (1601-1643)
L.A.S. "Louis", Saint-Germain January 12, 1638, [to Cardinal de RICHELIEU]; 2 pages petit in-4. Curious letter to Richelieu on the famous regiment of the Carabins d'Arnaut. "Arnaut des Carabins, came to me to tell me that I was doing him a great wrong, to join a company of Carabins to the Regiment of Cavalry, I tell him that I let him go, or a corps for him, he wanted me to say something that I did not hear, I tell him that it is useful for me. I don't mind your special interest. I want the thing to remain as I have ordered it [...] Jay had a thought today which is that if you saw something in the letters in the mail that you knew might prevent peace or truce, you could hold it back until Pujols had had little time to make some resolution with the Duke's tale".... He is happy to know that Richelieu is doing "well today and I am extremely happy. I'm doing very well too".
