ROSSINI Gioacchino (1792-1868)
P.A.S. "G. Rossini" with MUSIC, Passy de Paris 11 August 1867; 1 oblong page in-8 (8 x 19 cm). One measure of music in key of F giving a three notes chord (C mi sol), dedicated "À Mr Ganz". Wilhelm GANZ (1833-1919), of German origin, was professor of voice at the Guildhall School of Music in London. His Memoirs of a musician reproduce this document, which was cut from Ganz's autograph album, signed by Rossini at the request of his admirer when he visited him in Passy. According to Ganz, Rossini chose a place in the album under the signature of the composer and pianist Sigismund Thalberg, whom he admired greatly. Leafing through the album, Ganz recounts, Rossini spoke of many composers and performers he had known, personally, in glowing terms].
