GOUNOD Charles (1818-1893)
MANUSCRIT MUSICAL autograph for Cinq- Mars, [1876?]; 4 pages oblong in-fol. Sketches for the opera Cinq-Mars, premiered at the Opéra-Comique on April 5, 1877. Drawn in ink on an 18-line double sheet of paper (at the mark of August Cranz in Hamburg), they include 130 measures on systems of 9, 4 and 2 staves, with a few pencil additions. Gounod noted the vocal lines, with rare words, and some accompanying sketches. It is first an Ensemble (quartet and choir): "Marie, Reine !", Larghetto 3/4, gathering Marie de Gonzague, Cinq-Mars, De Thou and Father Joseph, plus a choir (top, tenors and basses); then a Choir, that "follows the song" ("à Marion"), ending with a ritornello.
