BRAHMS Johannes (1833-1897)
L.A.S. "J. Brahms", [Vienna April 2, 1895], at the Musikdirektor Leonhard WOLFF in Bonn am Rhein; 1 oblong page in-12, address on the back (Correspondenz-Karte). Leonhard WOLFF (1848-1934), violinist, conductor and pedagogue, was a friend of Brahms; cousin of the violinist Rudolf von Beckenrath, he played the viola in their chamber music sessions, with Brahms at the piano; after Marburg and Wiesbaden he was appointed Musikdirector in Bonn]. . He would first like to know the names of the sympathetic pianists. The Cologne Festival is for him as much a nuisance as it is for Albert [Eugen d'ALBERT (1864-1932), pianist and composer]. He received the invitation much earlier than Wolff, and he does not need to explain how difficult it will be for him, and for Vienna, to take part in both festivals!...
