BERLIOZ Hector (1803-1869)

L.A.S. "H. Berlioz", Wednesday 25 [September 1850], to art critic
Francis WEY; 1 page in-8 (small marginal holes).
On his portrait by Gustave COURBET (Musée d'Orsay).
Berlioz has just spent several days in Le Havre "where I spent a lot of money for equipment and the embarkation of my son, who has just left for the West Indies". He asks Wey to apologize to COURBET: "It was impossible for me to make the trip to the rue Hautefeuille; moreover the framing of the painting would bother me at this moment. It's sad, but that's"...
At the bottom of the page, F. Wey noted in pencil: "Berlioz having refused it, I had it framed, & Courbet donated it... to Chenavard"...
