PROVENANCE Atelier de l'artiste, offert par l'artisteCollection privée, Neuilly-sur-SeinePuis par descendance au propriétaire actuel In the painting we present here, the influence of the Impressionists in undeniable: in the treatment of the reflections of light as well as the vegetation in the water. It revisits, inspires and feeds off the work of its predecessors. Although he is following their lineage, he does not seek to copy them, he seeks to sublimate this light that is so dear to them. It is a magnificent tribute to Claude Monet, the founding father of the Impressionist movement. Cheerfulness reigns everywhere in his works, summer shines. In his landscapes, spring bursts into luminous touches. He himself says that «The landscape artist's motifs are certainly not under the eye but in the heart of the artist». Here, delicate water lilies are painted undulating and gliding on a pond. The colors seem to vibrate on the canvas. The light shines on the surface of the water and caresses the stems of the plants. Louis Vauxcelles complimented the artist during his exhibition in 1938 at the Galerie Durand-Ruel in Paris «Every touch, every vibration has the weight of a truth».
