ATTRIBUÉ À DONATIEN NONNOTTE (BESANÇON, 1708 - LYON, 1785)
Portrait of the Countess of Calonne Oil on canvas 138 x 106 cm Nonnotte was a favourite pupil of François Lemoyne, the king's first painter, and he collaborated with him on many of his great paintings, including his ceiling for the Salon d'Hercule at the Château de Versailles and the decoration of the Chapel of the Virgin at Saint Sulpice. Nonnotte first made his name as a history painter, he is remembered today mainly as a portrait painter, a quality for which he entered the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1741. He settled in Lyon in 1754 and remained there until his death.
