SATTAR BAHLULZADE (BAHLULZADEH) (1909 - 1947)
Caucasus Mountains Oil on canvas Signed on the back 50 x 60 cm Provenance Private collection, Tiflis Sattar Bahlulzade is the founder of landscape painting in Azerbaijan. He studied at the Baku Fine Arts School, perfected his skills in Moscow with Favorsky and met Chagall during his travels to the Crimea. Deeply attached to his country, he sought inspiration in the landscapes of the Caucasus. He noted, not without irony, that like Gauguin, he did not need to travel to Tahiti and that the beauty of his native land opened up the full vision of beauty to him. His art, as seen in our landscape, is characterized by a palette of bright colors, vibrant touch and indefinable expressiveness. Colour acquires a real musicality that reveals to us, beyond the forms, a spiritual vision, a mystical grasp of nature. His works are exhibited in the National Museum of Azerbaijan and in the painter's native village, Amirjan, where a museum is entirely dedicated to him. Some of the paintings are in the collections of Tiflis of Yerevan.
